Mental health concerns are consistently one of the most prevalent challenges facing young people who are at risk of homelessness or who are homeless. Mental health and wellbeing challenges can both cause homelessness or develop as the result of homelessness.

Since early 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic and associated social turmoil have negatively impacted young people’s mental health and wellbeing. Comprehensive cross-program analysis of BYS client data indicates that this rising trend is unlikely to abate in the near future.
