Daggy Jumper Day puts young people in spotlight for national Homelessness Week 2019

Aug 05, 2019

Dig out your naff knits and silly sweaters! Brisbane Youth Service (BYS) is calling on the community to
put the spotlight on young people experiencing homelessness on Daggy Jumper Day on August 9.

Held during national Homelessness Week, Daggy Jumper Day raises awareness and support for young
people who are in crisis or experiencing homelessness in Brisbane.

An Australia wide campaign, Homelessness Week was launched today and runs until 10 August. This
year’s theme, Housing ends homelessness, encourages all Australians to call on leaders at every level to
help deliver affordable housing and a national strategy to help end homelessness.

Di Mahoney, BYS Service Delivery Director, said she encouraged the whole community to take part in
Daggy Jumper Day 2019.

“Brisbane Youth Service is calling on everyone to help create better futures for young people and to
bring homelessness into the spotlight,” Ms Mahoney said.

“Daggy Jumper Day is a fun and easy way to raise awareness and support young people in Brisbane who
are struggling to keep warm, particularly during winter, while sleeping on the streets or couch surfing.”
BYS launched Daggy Jumper Day in 2013 and since its inception, the campaign has raised over
$100,000.

More than 116,000 Australians are currently homeless. 26,000 of those are young people aged between
12-25, with more than 4500 young people facing homelessness in Queensland every night.

Do it your way! Round up your family, friends, colleagues or community group for Daggy Jumper Day
and help raise funds to provide life changing support for homeless and at-risk youth.
