What do you do here at Brisbane Youth Service?
I work in the Housing Services team as the Senior Manager.

How does the work you do assist vulnerable young people experiencing homelessness and disadvantage?
Our team houses young people through a continuum of short, medium, and long term accommodation with wrap around supports. Our planned support includes living and tenancy skills to build independence and safety, also advocacy to address barriers young people may be experiencing.
What’s the one thing everyone should know about young people and homelessness?
If we support with a home, and create learning opportunities for our young people now, it can build skills to set them on a different trajectory for the rest of their life.
What’s the best part of working with young people?
When you see that smile of a young person when they are proud of new skills they have mastered.
What are some of the main reasons young people seek support?
Young people can unfortunately have many presenting issues at a very early age that can cause them to become at risk of homelessness, or homeless. Some of these can be due to family breakdown, domestic and family violence, lack of education of needed living skills, mental health, access to supported education and employment, and many more.
