The BYS Sustaining Young Tenancies team have been celebrating the findings of the interim evaluation report, completed by the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI).
BYS were funded by the Department of Housing and Public Works to deliver an 18 month Sustaining Young People’s Tenancies trial project in August 2016. AHURI are undertaking an independent evaluation of the program.
This interim report has found key housing outcomes from the SYT project to include young people’s ability to sustain tenancies and to transition to more suitable accommodation as well as improvements in young people’s relationships, life skills, mental and physical well being, and education, training and employment outcomes.
Project success factors were found to include early intervention, collaboration between BYS and housing providers, and mobile (outreach) support delivered to young tenants.
The SYT project funded has been extended to June 2018 with a final report from AHURI due to be published in January 2018.
