Team Youth Homelessness! BYS runs in Sunday Mail Bridge to Brisbane

Aug 21, 2019

Team End Youth Homelessness is getting ready to pound the pavement for The Sunday Mail Bridge to
Brisbane 2019 to help create new and better futures for young people.

Brisbane Youth Service (BYS) is proud to be an official VIP Charity Partner of the annual Bridge to
Brisbane, giving locals and BYS supporters the opportunity to raise funds to help young people
experiencing homelessness and disadvantage.

A much-loved annual event, Bridge to Brisbane will take place on Sunday, 25 August, starting at the
iconic Story Bridge, travelling along some of the city’s best landmarks before ending at Southbank.
Bridge to Brisbane is Queensland’s largest fun run, attracting over 30,000 participants annually.

BYS is thrilled to welcome major corporate partner, Student One, to Team End Youth Homelessness as a
VIP runner, as well as BYS corporate partners and sponsors, Rochele Painting, KPMG, Jacobs Brisbane
and Commonwealth Bank Eagle Street.

CEO Annemaree Callander said BYS is delighted to be a VIP Charity Partner of Bridge to Brisbane 2019.
“We’re grateful to our partners and supporters who are helping us to address the growing problem of
youth homelessness,” she said.

“40 per cent of the homeless population in Australia are under the age of 24*. BYS has worked with
homeless and vulnerable young people in Brisbane since 1977, and each year the need for assistance
continues to grow. Last year BYS supported over 1450 young people plus more than 1300 with casual
assistance.”

46 people have now joined Team End Youth Homelessness to help raise awareness and much needed
funds to support vulnerable young people and young families in Brisbane. The team has raised more
than $4,900 to date, almost half of its $10,000 target.

“All young people have the right to a safe home and a positive future. Every dollar raised will help us to
meet the growing demand for our services, giving vulnerable and homeless young people the chance to
create the new futures they deserve,” Ms Callander said.

Your city. Your race. Your chance to make a difference! 4,500 young people aged between 12 and 24
are facing homelessness in Queensland every night. Join Team End Youth Homelessness by taking part
in either a 10km or 5km fun run or walk.
