In Brisbane,  Youth Week (6-15 April) is the largest annual event for people aged 12 to 25, with activities celebrating young artists, musicians, skaters, environmentalists and other social enterprisers. It provides opportunities for young people to enjoy lifestyle and leisure opportunities, share ideas and celebrate their contribution to our community.

See below for just some of the activities in and around Brisbane.

Bloom Live Music Festival – Cost – Free. (All ages). Bloom is a free live music festival, young people from Music Industry College are taking over key music venues in the heart of Brisbane’s music precinct to come together and celebrate what it means to be young. The venues include Bakery and Winn Lane, 4zzz, Phase 4 Records, The Pod in Brunswick Mall, Tym’s Guitars, Music Industry College, and The Foundry. Film making: Hollywood tricks – Cost – Free. (12-17 yrs.) Learn awesome visual effects and find out how ideas can be brought to life using iPads, tripods, lights, microphones, green screens and props. Celebrate your new skills with a mini film festival showcasing your own series of short videos!  Presented by Activate Entertainment.. (Bookings essential).  Bookings required. Activism 101 – Cost – Free. (12 to 25 yrs.) Delivered by the One Woman Project this workshop is open to all 12-25 year olds that want to learn how to be social justice advocates in their communities. Workshop will include banner making, event brainstorming and learning how to create an effective campaign. Afternoon tea provided. (Bookings required). Women in Social Enterprise panel and networking event – Cost – Free. (12-25 yrs.) Presented by IMPACT Social Enterprise, this panel and networking event will bring together students, young people, industry professionals and social entrepreneurs to talk about enterprise, innovation, youth engagement, and creating change in communities locally and globally. Maker Space: Eco dying – Cost – Free. (12 to 25 yrs.) Learn the earth friendly art of eco dying by creating your own silk scarf. All materials provided. Please note your scarf will take a couple of hours to dry but there will be other activities on at Visible Ink that you can get involved in while you wait. (Bookings required). Maker Space: Arts Hub – Cost – Free. (12 to 25 yrs.) Be inspired and get creative in the Maker Space at Visible Ink. Visible Ink’s Arts Hub is stocked with a range of art supplies that you are able to use for free. From canvas to card or clay to beads the Arts Hub has space to let your creativity overflow. Come along to the Maker Space sessions between 12 noon-6pm to try your hand at painting, drawing, sticker design or badge making. Maker Space: Steampunk jewellery – Cost – Free. (12 to 25 yrs.) Inspired by 19th century steam-powered technology and Victorian era adventure and invention, Steampunk is now an established style and popular medium for jewellery design. It is an the aesthetic informed by brass cogs, rusty gears, rivets, pistons, adventure-worn leather and mechanical contraptions of old. During this workshop you will create a piece of wearable art using salvaged materials such as watch parts, cogs, keys, leather and broken jewellery. (Bookings required). Creative minds workshop with FiftySix Creations – Cost – Free (8-14 yrs.) What does it mean to be an entrepreneur? This workshop will spark your imagination and creativity, while building your confidence and speaking skills. This interactive workshop presented by the team from FiftySix Creations focusses on idea generation, design thinking, vision and strategy planning. Participants will also have the opportunity to construct their very own Virtual Reality headset that they can take home. (Bookings required). YouTube 101 – Cost – Free. (12 to 25 yrs.) Want to start sharing videos online but don’t know where to start? Come along to ‘YouTube 101’ for a workshop and panel that will tell you everything you need to know. Demonstrations and hands-on opportunities to set up a channel, make and upload a quick video, and then share the video to other social media channels. The panel at the end of the session is your opportunity to ask some experienced and successful YouTubers about their blogging journey! (Bookings required).
