International Women’s Day: Empowerment Self-Defence Workshop

Mar 15, 2019

Brisbane Youth Service was delighted to host an empowering self-defence work shop for young women on International Women’s Day – 8 March 2019.

The workshop focused on equipping women with skills to empower themselves to say ‘no’ in a variety of situations and protect themselves if in danger.

Special thanks to Antonella Spatola;  Intuitive Wing Chun Kung Fu for the Mind, Body and Soul Founder.

Antonella is a certified instructor and the skills she taught these young women are much appreciated.

Some of the feedback from young people included:

  • “I found the workshop empowering and inspiring!”
  • “I didn’t realise how powerful my body was until now.”
  • “I have learned new techniques to keep myself safe, thank you!”

Denise Buchan, Drug Intervention and Rehabilitation Worker, organised the workshop for Brisbane Youth Service.

Feedback from the workshop was really positive. It was great to see young women get involved and share some of their stories. It was definitely inspiring and a great way to celebrate International Women’s Day! Some of the young women are hoping to complete the 8 hour, Intermediate 1 workshop in the future.
