This week (30 April 2026), Brisbane Youth Service welcomed nearly 200 young people, employers, training providers, and community services to our Youth Support Centre for our second annual Positive Transitions Program (PTP) Employment and Training Expo.
With support from youth workers, young people explored employment and training options in a welcoming and encouraging setting.
Positive Transitions Program Coordinator Amy Murphy said 88 young people supported by Brisbane Youth Service attended the Expo, ready to engage and ask questions.
Young people have incredible resilience, strengths, and motivation. What many haven’t had access to are the right tools and opportunities to reach their full potential.
For many young people, those opportunities have been limited by experiences outside their control.
“So many young people have faced barriers like family violence or discrimination,” Amy said.
“Providing choice and support helps restore a sense of control and belief in what’s possible.”
Young adulthood is a critical time for learning, confidence‑building, and exploration. When opportunities are accessible at this stage, they can change the direction of a young person’s life.
However, for young people who have experienced homelessness, career pathways can feel especially out of reach. The Expo was designed to help remove some of those barriers by enabling face‑to‑face conversations and offering the chance to explore next steps in a supportive environment.
The Expo is part of the Positive Transitions Program, which is proudly supported by Brisbane City Council.
At its core, the Positive Transitions Program supports young people in building confidence and working toward goals they identify for themselves. This includes practical support with education, training, employment, and connection to the community.
The Expo is an extension of this work, helping connect young people with opportunities they might not know about.
We’re deeply grateful to the employers, education providers, and services who shared their time and knowledge. Your involvement helps create a community where young people are met with belief in their potential.
And to the young people who showed up: the courage, curiosity, and determination you brought to the day is something to be proud of. We’re honoured to walk alongside you as you build new futures.
If you offer entry-level roles, paid training programs, apprenticeships, or other pathways, and would like to get involved with the Program or future Expos, please contact Amy Murphy.
