Work with young children one day a week
BYS’s Centre for Young Women is looking for a volunteer to support our weekly young women’s group program run every Friday morning at Zillah Street, Stones Corner. As the weekly group runs from 11am – 1pm– we would need the volunteer from 9.30am – 3pm each Friday if possible.
We are hoping this volunteer can take a lead in child-minding the children that attend group with their mums. The children’s age range is 6 months to about 4 years.
The types of duties might include:
- Planning, setting up and facilitating activities for the children
- Food preparation
- Assisting with group set-up and pack down
- Connecting with young women and supporting other group activities run by facilitators
- Participating in group pre and de-briefing sessions with CFYW team
Women with experience in child care and also who have an understanding of issues surrounding women’s experiences of homelessness desired. This position would be ideal for a human services/social work student or someone with an interest in homelessness issues or social justice.
Start date is ASAP. There will be training and induction provided.
As the position is working with children, you will need a Blue Card (this can be applied for when you commence). A driver’s licence would also be useful to assist with shopping etc.
