Donated Items Wish List

There is an ongoing need for donated items at BYS for young people. We make up hampers for young families and for young people moving into their first home. Non perishable food and toiletries are always in demand.


Items for babies and young children.  We appreciate new items for babies and children so we can support young parents caring for their children.  Ideally young families need items such as:

  • Baby care items – baby wipes, nappy rash creams, baby insect repellent, baby sunscreen,
  • Play time – bath toys, story books, toys suitable from birth to 3 years
  • Linen – Bassinet sheet sets, cot sheet sets, baby towels, face flannels, muslin wraps, flannelette wraps etc
  • Meal time – infant cups, bowls and cutlery, baby water / feeding cups, non-perishable baby food items (low sugar)
  • Clothing for babies newborn to 3 years – short and long sleeved singlets, short and long sleeve t-shirts, sleepwear, sun hat, socks, sandles / shoes
  • Other items – nappy bag, change mat, play mat, stroller, cot, bassinette, mosquito net,


Items for young people moving into their first home.  We help young people and young families who are homeless to find affordable housing and we seek donations that will help them turn their house into a home.  Items that would assist them are (these items do not need to be new but in good condition please):

  • Kitchen utensils for cooking – pots and pans, baking tray, baking dish, mixing bowls, egg flip, tongs, serving spoons, wooden spoons etc
  • Cutlery – knives and forks, spoons, a knife set, etc
  • Crockery – dinner set, coffee mugs, water glasses, salad bowls, salad servers
  • Electric kettle and toaster, microwave
  • Linen – sheet sets (single, double or queen size) pillows, tea towels, bath towels, bath mat, blankets, doona, doona cover, shower curtain
  • Furniture – beds, lounge chairs, kitchen table and chairs, bedside tables, desks, etc
  • Cleaning items – broom, bucket and mop, rubbish bin, bin liners, pegs, cleaning products (dishwashing liquid, floor cleaner, household cleaner, clothes detergent etc)
  • Personal hygiene items (for hygienic reasons these need to be new / unopened items) – toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, hand and body soap, roll on deodorant, etc


Non-perishable food – young people coming into BYS sometimes no food and may not have had a decent meal in a while. We provide basic non-perishable food items (some that don’t need reheating) and we also provide food items to young people who are moving into their own place for the first time (pantry items).  You could assist by providing items from the list below:

  • Canned or packet soups
  • spaghetti sauces
  • canned meats such as chicken and turkey, beef stew, corned beef
  • canned fish such as salmon, tuna and sardines
  • whole grains such as quinoa, rice, pasta, rolled oats
  • pasta sauces, curry sauces, etc in a bottle
  • biscuits – savoury snack biscuits such as crispbreads
  • spreads and sauces such as vegemite, peanut butter, honey, jam, tomato sauce, bar-b-que sauce
  • canned fruit (with pull top openings)
  • canned vegetables (with pull top openings)
  • packet food / ready made meals such as macaroni and cheese
  • cereal – packet cereals (low sugar), cereal bars, granola bars
  • Juice – canned or bottled juice (low sugar)

Toiletries – these items can be expensive for young people to purchase and are always in demand

  • soaps – bar soaps and liquid soap
  • shampoo and conditioner
  • toilet paper
  • roll-on deodorant
  • tampons and panty liners
  • tooth brushes and toothpaste
